Adoption Process

Step 1

The process of adoption begins with the completion of an adoption application. After submission, please allow for 7-10 days for you to hear from us as we run on a volunteer basis. We are looking for the perfect homes that fit our dogs' needs, so sometime it takes a while for all applications to be processed.

Step 2

If we feel that the home is a good fit for the dog, we will then schedule a meet-and-greet with all of the family members who live in your home. If the family AND the rescue are ready to move forward with the adoption, we set up a home visit.

Step 3

At the adoption, full payment of the adoption fee is received and the adoption contract is signed. FFR will provide all necessary documentation for the dog's new family.

Step 4

Congratulations, you have a new member of your family! Dogs are the greatest gift to this earth, and we are so excited for you and your new addition. Remember, your new pup has been through a lot of change in their life and may need time to adjust to their new environment. We ask that you be patient with them and yourselves through this process.

  • Is the dog I'm interested still available?
If the dog is still listed on our website, they are available. We try to keep our rescue search engines such as Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet, and RescueMe as up to date as possible, but our website is updated as pets get adopted.
  • Do invisible fences count as fenced in yards?
No. The rescue has a strict policy against invisible fences and won't adopt to homes that use them. We encourage individual research on why this policy is in place and are happy to provide further information on why we don't allow them.
  • What are your adoption fees?
Our adoption fees vary per dog, so email us if wanting to know for a specific dog.
  • I don't live in Charlotte, NC. Can I still adopt from you?
We do allow adoptions from outside this area. However, if two applications are both approved and similar, local applicants do get priority. Anyone adopting outside of this area must come to Charlotte for the meet and greet and must transport their adopted pup themselves. We do not arrange for shipment and the adopters must be in person for adoption.
  • Is a fenced in yard required to adopt?
Not necessarily. The rescue assesses each dog individually and determines whether that dog will require a fenced in yard. It will be noted in their bio if the dog requires a fenced in yard. If deemed the dog requires a fence, please know this is in the best interest of the dog.
  • What if I want an outdoor dog?
Dogs are family members, so we expect them to be living inside with everyone else in the family. Dogs adopted through the rescue are not to be left outside unattended when the owner is away or spend nights outside. Too many bad things can happen. Dognapping, snakebites, dogs escaping, etc. - google it!
  • Do you have a minimum age to adopt? If I'm not of age, can someone else apply for me?
Yes, potential adopters must be of age 25. The primary owner of the dog must be the one submitting the application. We can tell when people try to get around this! : )
